Upper Eskedale, The Lake District

Over the last few days I spent some time hiking in The Lake District National Park in north west England. It had been a long time since I had visited this area and had forgotten how fantastic the scenery can be, particularly in the excellent weather that I had for the two days of my […]

Filmy Ferns at Doi Inthanon

The summit of Doi Inthanon is the highest point in Thailand and it possesses some of the mosy beautiful forest I have ever seen. Particularly in the rainy season the twisted and gnarled trees are covered in ferns, orchids and mosses making it look like quite a magical place. This particular scene will be familiar […]

Red Admiral Butterfly

Today I spent the day bird watching at Dungeness, on the south coast of Kent, enjoying some sunny weather. I got some nice photos of gulls loafing on the beach and saw some interesting birds on the RSPB nature reserve. While I was sitting in one of the hides, watching wading birds, I noticed some […]

Sunset on the Mekong

A few years ago I made a trip to Chiang Khan, in northeastern Thailand. This village has become popular with Thai tourists because of its traditional houses and culture as well as its scenic location on the banks of the Mekong river.

Juvenile Common Whitethroat

Today at Oare Marshes, in Kent, there were a lot of wading birds to be seen but it was really tough to see any small passerines due to windy weather. One species I did get close to was Common Whitethroat with a small family group noisily foraging in a bramble patch.

Bulbuls Taking a Drink

Can you spot the odd one out? I photographed this group of Black-crested Bulbuls at Lung Sin Waterhole, near Kaeng Krachan National Park, Thailand, as they were taking a drink. If you look carefully you can see the black and yellow tipped tail of a single Black-headed Bulbul with them. This is a great place […]

Thai Dancer at Pitsanulok

A couple of years ago I visited Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat in Pitsanulok, Thailand, to see the famous Buddha image that resides there. Outside the temple were cultural dance performances every 15 minutes or so which were beautiful and with the light being almost perfect I was able to get some really nice images, including […]

These Nokdujeon were photographed (and eaten) at Gwangjang Market in Seoul, South Korea. These are made from mung beans and sold cheaply from market stalls and having seen them on travel programs on TV I hunted them out on my first day in Seoul (9th June, 2015). They were large enough to share and were […]

Banpo Bridge

Banpo Bridge crosses the Han River in Seoul, South Korea and at regular intervals during the day a series of water jets are coordinated with music to create a fountain show. At night this becomes quite spectacular by adding lighting to the water jets. In June 2015 I was one of many people trying to […]

Garden Warbler

I photographed this Garden Warbler on July 16th 2015 while leading a short bird watching tour to The Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales. Although it was a little far away for photographing such a small bird its agitated behaviour meant that it spent some time in the same small bush and taking a […]
